4 good reasons to switch to green laundry

- Zero waste
Are you still trying to reduce your waste? Have you ever thought of switching to eco-friendly laundry detergent? Even though the recycling of household product packaging is on the rise – and that’s cool – there is still 30% of product packaging that is not recycled. When it comes to laundry detergent, in addition to the large plastic containers, it often contains invisible waste. Not cool.
Don’t worry, you know that Anotherway offers you greener alternatives, and accompanies you in your transition 🙂
1. It is better for your health
Industrial detergents can be very dangerous for our health. According to a study conducted by “60 million consumers”, they have been recognised as carcinogenic. Some have also been recognised as bad for the liver because certain substances irritate it. They can also trigger allergies.
On the other hand, there are more and more ecological detergents, which are much more respectful of consumers’ health. Most are hypoallergenic, made with natural ingredients and without synthetic dyes or perfumes. All these products will reduce the aggression to your skin and health.
So it’s best to choose an eco-friendly detergent to keep your health in check!
2. It is better for the planet
It’s no secret that, between plastic packaging and the discharge of toxic products into the seas and oceans, industrial washing detergent is an ecological disaster. The ingredients in this detergent are not biodegradable and create, among other things, bacteriological mutations. As for their deliciously bewitching perfume (yes, we agree, it smells good), they are synthetic perfumes, which are generally made from petroleum. You can imagine the consequences for biodiversity.
Ecological detergents are created with green and biodegradable ingredients. They generally contain soda crystals, Marseille soap or natural soap, and white vinegar. As far as containers are concerned, ecological detergents offer alternatives to plastic. Either in the form of refills, or from recycled plastic, or even better, in glass bottles for laundry.
Less pollution in the creation of the detergent, no more toxic waste and no more plastic packaging, YESSS!
3. It is better for your laundry
Industrial washing powder can be harsh on your clothes because of the chemicals. Sometimes it doesn’t wash very well; for example, it works well for colours, but for everything else – white, black, stubborn stains – it leaves something to be desired. Ecological detergents, on the other hand, respect your clothes. First of all, its formula is gentler: the ingredients are natural and there are very few of them. However, they are highly effective, so bye bye to stubborn stains.
If those stains are too fond of your laundry, and really don’t want to go away, take a look at our grandma’s tips, we promise you it’s worth it 😉
Are you convinced? Which eco-friendly detergent should I choose?
There are several types of ecological detergents. Those found in supermarkets such as Arbre Vert, those found in organic shops such as BioCoop, bulk detergents or detergents made by ecological companies.
Overall, all these detergents have ingredients that respect the environment and your skin. So that’s great.
For the ecological detergents found in supermarkets and specialist shops, they generally offer refills. This means that you don’t have to throw away your canister and buy another one each time. The downside is that the cans are made of plastic and so are the refills. But it’s a good start 🙂 We agree!
For bulk detergents and those bought from specialised companies, it’s the best of the best. In addition to offering environmentally friendly ingredients, the containers or packaging are also ecological. So of course, if you take bulk detergent, bring a glass bottle. But you already know that, no need to learn it 😉
4. Homemade laundry
And yes, as well as being environmentally friendly, you can say that. I DID IT. You can make your own washing powder at home. Here’s the recipe for 1.5 litres of homemade detergent.
You will need :
- 30 g of Marseille soap with 72% vegetable oil
- 1 tablespoon of baking soda
- 1 tablespoon of soda crystals
- 1.5 L of fresh water
- 1 x 2L glass bottle or 2 x 1L glass bottles
Start by grating your Marseille soap if you have not already bought it in flakes.
Then boil the water in a pot. When the water boils, turn off the heat and add the soap flakes. Melt them, stirring with a wooden spoon and your biggest smile.
In another container, add the baking soda and soda crystals to the water. Stir. Pour this mixture into the pot when it starts to cool. Stir. Again and again 🙂 You are almost there.
Allow to cool well while stirring occasionally.
Pour the mixture into the glass container(s). We advise you to do this with a funnel 😉
As soon as the mixture has cooled down, you can use it. Good for you!
Shake it well before each use.
Be careful, the mixture will foam. Always use a larger container than you need. Here, we use a 2 L container for 1.5 L of detergent.
Making your own homemade detergent will give you total control over your detergent, and then you can brag about it. And that’s priceless!
And if you don’t have the time or inclination to make it yourself, the best alternative is to try Anotherway’s detergent. Easy, ecological, made in France, efficient, it has everything to please 😉
